Edinburgh local's walk to work through crowds on rammed North Bridge goes viral

A recent TikTok upload filmed in Edinburgh has everyone, for once, in agreement.

The footage, posted by @Greg_the_Graduate, shows a packed North Bridge as people try make their way across. Posted on Tuesday, the video already has 26,000 views.

He writes: “I love Edinburgh but there’s nothing infuriating than walking across North Bridge when it’s busy.”

Unsurprisingly, he’s not alone. A fellow TikTok user commented: “When you’re late for work and every tourist in the northern hemisphere has decided that today the North Bridge is the place to be.”

Another agreed: “I get second hand rage just watching this.” A third said: “The way I just stomp through shouting ‘excuse me’ and using my elbows if they don’t move.”

In the comments section, locals seemed to take issue with walking not only across North Bridge - but the city in general. One user said: “Walking anywhere in Edinburgh is insufferable.”

Another commented: “People from Edinburgh walk straight through you, Don’t have time to doddle.”

Currently, ongoing works to refurbish the iconic North Bridge mean parts of the pavement are thinner than normal - and folks are packed in tight as they make their way between the Old to New Towns. According to Edinburgh Council, these will continue ‘well into’ the year.

Cllr Scott Arthur, Transport and Environment Convener, said: ”The historic nature of the project, the age of the structure and its heritage value finds the team uncovering previously concealed elements of the bridge which require significant specialist work.

“I have been assured that the Council is putting additional measures in place to ensure pedestrian safety.”
