Edinburgh thunderstorms: Met Office issue 'danger to life' warning

Following a glorious heatwave that saw highs of 28 degrees in the capital, Edinburgh is set to be hit by three days of severe thunderstorms.

Edinburgh and other parts of Scotland have been placed under a yellow weather warning by the Met office which begins on Monday and doesn't end until Thursday.

According to the official weather warning, there is a "small chance" of "danger to life" as flash flooding could potentially cause "fast-flowing or deep floodwater."

The Met Office warned that severe thunderstorms are likely to begin on Monday night, although there is "significant uncertainty in location and timing."

A Met Office spokesman said: "Some places are likely to see severe thunderstorms during the middle of next week, but with significant uncertainty in location and timing.

"There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

"Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.
