Edinburgh teenager attacked with metal pole in vicious daytime assault

An Edinburgh teenager has been left hospitalised with a head injury after allegedly being attacked with a metal pole in a brutal daytime assault.

The 15-year-old is understood to have been struck with the weapon at Edinburgh College’s Granton campus after being targeted by a violent gang of fellow youths.

Eyewitnesses told how the group punched and kicked the youngster before he was hit with the pole.

Several passing adults are understood to have intervened in order to disperse the group and emergency services were contacted.

The teenager was transported to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment after being assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Police have since launched a probe into the incident, but say any enquiries are at an early stage.

The youngster has been released from hospital following treatment for a head wound.

A spokesperson for the force said: “Officers were called to West Granton Road at around 2.40pm on Thursday, September 9 following a report a teenager had been assaulted.

"A 15-year-old boy was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he was treated for a head injury, before being released.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
