Edinburgh teen Andy Towns who died during gap year trip to Asia described as 'one in a million'

Tributes have been paid to a popular Edinburgh teenager who died during a gap year trip to Southeast Asia.

Andy Towns (18) has been described as "one in a million" by heartbroken friends.

It is understood that he died after being hit by a minibus in Laos on Saturday.

The Daily Record have reported that he attended Boroughmuir High School and pupils have been informed of his passing.

He was also a keen footballer who turned out for North Merchiston FC – and a minute silence was held by the club ahead of their matches on Sunday as a show of respect.

Boroughmuir Seniors took to Twitter to pay their own respects, posting: "Absolutely heartbroken. Andy Towns, one in a million, you'll never be forgotten. Rest easy brother."

North Merchiston FC Blacks - Under 13s commented on social media: "The club is devastated to hear the loss of 18 year old Andy Towns.

"Andy was at the club for a number of seasons and will be sorely missed by all at the club."
