Edinburgh tech company creates social distancing alarm - and needs volunteers to test it

As companies begin to plan how to bring staff into the work place safely, one Edinburgh technology company has created a device that may help with ensuring that social distancing measures are adhered to.

DeBlur, based in the capital, have invented the 'DeDistance Alarm', a small (4cm diameter) wearable device for employees.

If a wearer breaches the 2m social distancing bubble, the device will sound an alarm and flash until social distance is re-established or the device is silenced.

The company have recommended that the use of the alarms is implemented in places where coronavirus can be easily spread such as manufacturing plants, construction sites, offices, supermarket trolleys.

According to the site: "DeDistance helps to keep employees outside the 'contact' zone.

"It is unlikely that they will need to isolate if their colleagues test positive with the coronavirus."

DeBlur are looking for work places to trial the new social distancing alarm and provide feedback - if you know a company who is willing to test them out head to DeBlur's website here.

Yesterday charts showed that coronavirus deaths in NHS Lothian area have fallen for the fifth consecutive week. New data from the National Records of Scotland shows 24 deaths attributed to the virus between 18 and 25 May.
