Edinburgh Taco Bell sees huge crowds of delivery drivers ignoring social distancing rules

A large crowd of delivery drivers have been seen ignoring social distancing rules outside Edinburgh's new Taco Bell restaurant.

On Tuesday evening (May 4), a group of 35 delivery drivers for different takeaway platforms were seen gathered outside of the premises as they waited to collect orders.

After opening on April 30, the popular Mexican fast food chain has seen a huge demand from locals, now able to sit-in as well as ordering from home.

However, images taken by a passer-by have shown drivers crowded on Shandwick Place, none of whom are following social distancing guidelines.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, they added that a number of delivery vehicles had also been parked on the street despite only buses, trams and taxis being allowed along it.

After announcing an easing in coronavirus restrictions, the Scottish Government had released guidance on queue management for hospitality, which states:

"There is an increased risk that physical distancing will not be observed in queues in a hospitality setting, particularly during evenings, and that this can lead to people crowding together, which must be avoided.

"Steps should be taken to avoid queues outside the premises as much as possible but where unavoidable for safety reasons, measures should be taken to ensure physical distancing."

Able to seat 64 customers inside, Taco Bell is the first of the chain to open in Edinburgh, which has proved a huge hit across the UK and in the US.
