Edinburgh students put on hilarious window displays to entertain others during lockdown

A group of Morningside students have been keeping neighbours entertained with a selection of different window displays during lockdown.

The four Edinburgh flatmates have stuck up hilarious phrases, ideas for isolation and questions to the front windows of their flat. From thoughts of the day such as 'who came first, the chicken or the egg' as well as a hilarious Rapunzel tribute that urged people to be like the princess, making the best of isolation and staying at home.

The city has seen multiple efforts from different residents to keep themselves and their neighbours smiling, from window Easter egg hunts in Rosewell to a mum's quarantine 18th party for her twin daughters.

Many Morningside residents have taken to social media to post about the hilarious displays as they've passed the flat, looking forward to what the next one will be. The students have also appealed online for suggestions on what people would like to see decorating the windows in the coming weeks whilst lockdown continues.

As reported by the Daily Record, one of the students, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “It started off as a joke a few weeks ago, just before lockdown started.

“We thought it would be funny because it was going to be my birthday and we were going to have a party.

“Obviously we had to cancel it so my flatmates decided to put a happy birthday sign in the window so people outside would know.

“It kind of just went from there. We decided to keep it up and were originally going to do ideas for things to do in isolation but we ran out of things pretty quickly.

“It is quite funny watching people walk past. You can tell if it's a good sign or not because people will stop and laugh or take photos. Or they’ll just look at it and just walk away.”

The second flatmate added: “We hope to keep it going as long as we can - it definitely looks like it’s going to be another three weeks probably.

“We’re beginning to scrape the bottom of the barrel with ideas of what to do next. We spend several hours each night contemplating what should go on next.”
