Edinburgh students crowd at Meadows for last 'huge party' before gatherings banned

Edinburgh residents were shocked after hordes of 'students' gathered in groups of 'up to 30' in the Meadows last night.

Students are starting university without the usual 'freshers week' and according to locals, they had a 'huge party' at the public park last night.

It comes as the rule of six, which bans people from meeting up with more than six people both indoors and outdoors, comes into effect in Scotland from today.

According to one resident, "dozens upon dozens upon dozens of people" were 'streaming' down the streets near the Meadows at around 10pm.

The resident shared an image of the 'party' dispersing online, penning: "Was there a huge party in The Meadows tonight?

"Dozens upon dozens of people streaming down my street some in groups of 30 at 10pm.

"Couple of cops moved this lot on presumably because there were more than 15 together.

"The larger groups had already 'escaped' down the street."

Another shocked local added: "I drove through the Meadows about 5.30pm.

"Hordes of young people. I still won’t go into a shop, a supermarket, a restaurant, in safety, because of their blatant selfishness.

"The I’m all right jack syndrome."

Another added: "Been like that for a couple of days, last week when the weather was really nice massive group of students sitting together."

The news come as a large group of teens were also pictured crowding in the Meadows yesterday and blocking pathways where residents would walk.

Edinburgh Live has approached Police Scotland for comment.
