Edinburgh student halls to become 'Scotland's largest hotel' for summer season after £10m refurb

An Edinburgh student campus is set to become Scotland's "biggest" hotel again this summer after a massive £10 million refurbishment.

Each year the Pollock Halls transforms into a hotel to welcome visitors over the summer season, while the students are away.

And this year, after a huge investment to Holland House, the area will be able to house 1880 visitors.

Rooms will be priced from £37 per person and are available to book for dates between 25 May and 10 Septembers, before they return to being student halls.

Pollock Halls have shared bathrooms and rooms for 890 people while Holland House has en-suite bedrooms and sleeps 350 people. Chancellor's Court and John Burnett House also have en-suite bedrooms, and can cater for 640 guests.

There will also be free parking, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi and a restaurant, bar and bistro.

The halls are owned by Edinburgh University, and operated by the accommodation catering and events division Edinburgh First.

And Lyndsay Wilkie, director of business development at Edinburgh First, is expecting the campus to come to life over the summer months – particularly in August during the Festival.

Lyndsay said: “Most people would expect our campus to be quiet over the summer months when our students have left, however in June, July and August it takes on a totally different atmosphere as we welcome thousands of guests visiting our wonderful city.

“Our campus, once again, really comes to life, and this is particularly evident in August when festival goers and performers alike come together to celebrate the incredible culture and arts scene in Edinburgh.

“The size of the campus creates a truly unique buzz, almost like its very own small community. The variety of rooms available at Pollock Halls means that we are able to accommodate a diverse range of guests with varying budgets, from school groups and festival performers to couples who are looking for something slightly different and more affordable.

“We’re continually investing in our student accommodation to ensure we meet high quality standards. This not only benefits the students but also our summer guests.”
