Edinburgh street shut down as armed police swoop in early morning incident

An Edinburgh street was attended by armed police on Friday after officers raced to the scene during an early morning incident.

Police were called out at around 7.15am to the Gibson Terrace area of the city after reports were made over concerns for a person nearby.

A large emergency response had attended the incident, including a full firearms team in addition to local officers, however police have stated there was "no risk to the wider public."

A number of police vehicles and an ambulance were also reported to have been stationed outside Tynecastle High School at around 7.30am in connection to the incident.

In a statement on Friday, police added that enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the reports, however no one was injured as a result.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called around 7.15am on Friday, 15 October, to a report of a concern for person in the Gibson Terrace area of Edinburgh.
