Man rushed to hospital and teen arrested and charged after fight on busy Edinburgh street

Police were called to a busy Edinburgh street in the city centre this morning after reports of a fight.

An altercation broke out on the corner of George Street and Frederick Street, close to Bourbon nightclub.

A 26-year-old man was rushed to hospital and a 19-year-old was charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear in court.

Police were supported by members of the Street Assist team who said an assault had taken place.

A team member said: “We helped Edinburgh Police with an assault, a potential spiking and a vulnerable male, also lending a hand when a large fight broke out. We'll be back out next weekend."

Police later confirmed that there was no report of a spiking.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers were made aware of a serious assault within a premises on Frederick Street around 1.10am on Sunday 5 December.

"A 26-year-old man was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment to a head injury.

"A 19-year-old man was charged in connection with the incident and will appear in court at a later date."
