Edinburgh street on lock down as armed cops carry out 'planned operation'

An Edinburgh street is on lock down today as armed cops carry out a 'planned operation'.

Officers from Police Scotland descended on Duddingston Row in the capital shortly before 11am.

Residents were forced to stay in their homes as around six police cars blocked off access roads to the area.

A spokesman for Police Scotland confirmed to the Daily Record the operation is not related to the murder of Trainspotting 2 star Bradley Welsh.

Local resident Richard Spence, who was in the area at the time, took to Twitter to say: "A typical Easter Friday morning with Duddingston Row closed by the armed response unit and yours truly being asked to move on."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh, supported by specialist resources, carried out a planned operation at an address in Duddingston Row on Friday 19th April.

"Inquiries in relation to this matter are ongoing."
