Edinburgh Street Food market and what we can expect when it opens this month

Edinburgh's first permanent seven-day-a-week street food market is set to launch later this month and food fans have been given the chance to see what they can expect.

The hotly anticipated Edinburgh Street Food, which is located on Leith Street, will launch on the 25th of February 2023.

The new market will take over a 900m2 corner of Edinburgh’s Omni Center and transform it into an exciting food paradise, extending out onto the pavement with a 250-seater urban garden.

With overhead cover, outside heaters and Calton Hill forming the backdrop, Edinburgh Street Food will offer an all-weather casual dining space.

Co-founder Ben MacMillan said that the new market will be 'fiercely independent' and only work with local artists, local traders and breweries to create an "enticing, vibrant market" where both neighbours and travellers can find the best street food in the city.

He said: “ESF is providing creative independent traders the year-round city centre space their exceptional food merits.”

Edinburgh Street Food will house ten permanent kitchens, with additional quirky vans, trucks and stalls popping up outside.

They've revealed the Edinburgh Street Food line-up which will include:

  1. Junk: Fine dining reimagined by 2023 UK & European Street Food winners.

  2. Bundits: The Best Newcomer at the Edinburgh Restaurant Awards 2022, with their East Asian fusion fluffy Hirata bao.

  3. Chix: Succulent gourmet fried chicken experts.

  4. What Le Duck: A new brand by Edinburgh Street Food vendor which promises quintessentially French confit duck with a Scottish twist.

  5. Antojitos: Scotland’s 2022 Street Food winners bringing bucket loads of flavour via plant-based Mexican food.

  6. The Peruvian: Offering top Peruvian cuisine including tequeños and lomo saltado.

  7. House of Tapas: Authentic Spanish fare.

  8. Homies: Edinburgh’s proper Detroit-style pizza legends

  9. Fabbrica: Purveyor of fresh pasta and fried Italian street food delights.

  10. SoftCore: A new highly Instagrammable hand-crafted soft serve concept that’ll boast warm cookies, candy floss, sundaes and all things sweet.

Meanwhile, the three bars will support local breweries, distilleries and soft drink producers. The opening lineup on draught features entirely Scottish beers with 70% hailing from Edinburgh, with shout-outs to East Lothian, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dundee.

Co-founder Andrew Marshall added: “It is exciting to bring a new street food concept to Edinburgh. Every great city has a central gathering space of independent food offerings and events open all week and we are delighted to have the opportunity to open this in Edinburgh.”

In addition to ten exceptional traders and three bars, Edinburgh Street Food will have an impressive calendar of 150+ live events per year, promising to deliver entertainment every time people pop by.

The market will open at Greenside Place at Leith Street on February 25 running Sunday until Thursday 11 am - 11 pm and Friday to Saturday 11 am - 1 am.
