Edinburgh stables fight to save horses as they close for second lockdown

An Edinburgh stable has started a fundraiser to care for their horses during lockdown.

The Tower Farm riding school has launched an urgent appeal after they were forced to close their doors once again.

As winter hits, staff have been left with very small budgets to care for the animals and afford the upkeep of the site, where many have learnt to ride over the years.

After staring the appeal, the stables wrote:

"Obviously we still have ongoing overheads Including feeding, hay, worming, shoeing, water and additional rugs during this cold spell.

"Many of our amazing clients have been kind enough to offer contribution towards the upkeep of their favourite horses and ponies."

In just a few days the stable has been able to raise half of their £1000 target, as locals have donated to the cause.

Today, the Lord Provost of Edinburgh also backed the fundraiser, tweeting:

"Our friends at Tower Farm Riding Stables, key to the success of Edinburgh Riding of the Marches, are fundraising to help feed the horses & meet other running costs through the winter during lockdown.

"Please read more about their appeal and help if you can."

The Tower Stables are one of the many organisations that have closed under the new lockdown rules.

On Monday, (January 4), Nicola Sturgeon toughened restrictions in Scotland to protect the public from the new coronavirus strain, making the 'stay at home' guidance law.

The current restrictions are hoped to end on February 1, however this will be reviewed on January 18.
