Edinburgh St James Quarter workers isolating after Covid outbreak on site

Contractors at Edinburgh's St James Quarter are self-isolating after Covid cases were identified at the huge city centre development.

NHS Lothian confirmed to Edinburgh Live that they are currently following up the cases and all close contacts involved in coronavirus outbreak on the site and any staff involved are being advised to self-isolate for 10 days.

They have said that: "NHS Lothian Health Protection Team is working closely with the City of Edinburgh Council and St James’ Centre Construction Site Project Team in following up COVID cases linked to the St James Quarter development."

It was unclear how many cases have been confirmed or how many workers are isolating.

NHS Lothian added that "all necessary guidance and advice is being provided and the situation will be closely monitored", but that "to respect and maintain confidentiality, no further details will be released".

Last month 50 construction workers were told to self isolate due to the Covid-19 outbreak at the site - as well as up to 11 workers believed to have tested positive for coronavirus.

The new St James Quarter Project is due to open around April time in 2021 and workers have continued to build at the site throughout the second national lockdown.

Edinburgh Live contacted contractors Laing O'Rourke for comment.
