Edinburgh South MP Ian Murray has been appointed shadow Scottish secretary in Labour's new shadow cabinet.
The only Scottish Labour MP left in Scotland following the December 2019 election, Murray had made an unsuccessful run to become the party's deputy leader.
First elected as Edinburgh South's MP in 2010, Murray has held the seat with a strong majority at each election.
He replaced Nigel Griffiths, who served in parliament for Edinburgh South between 1987 and 2010.
The MP came fourth in the party's deputy leadership contest, winning just over 13% of the vote.
Labour's new leader Sir Keir Starmer, who replaces Jeremy Corbyn, has announced his new shadow cabinet.
Murray was reappointed to the shadow Scottish role after he resigned from it in 2016 in protest over Corbyn's leadership of the party following the UK's vote to leave the European Union .
Born in Edinburgh, Murray was first elected as a Labour politician in 2003, serving until his election as an MP as a local councillor in Liberton and Gilmerton.
Prior to politics, he ran his own events management company after graduating from the University of Edinburgh.
Welcoming Murray to his shadow cabinet, Keir Starmer said: "The road back to connecting with the Scottish public will not be quick or easy, but it will be my priority.
"I am delighted that Ian is joining my frontbench team. His experience of winning in Scotland and his understanding of the constitution will be vital for our party's future, with Holyrood elections just over one year away."
