Edinburgh shop owner's despair as yob smashes through door and leaves place covered in blood

An Edinburgh shop owner has been forced to close on her "busiest weekend" after a lout smashed through the front door in a late-night raid.

Judith Campbell has spoken of her anger after Rosy Penguin was broken-into in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The culprit crashed through a glass panel on the front door of the store, on Morningside Road, before tearing up the inside of the store. The person responsible is believed to have cut themselves on the glass as a quantity of blood was left behind at the scene.

Judith says police are currently are the scene combing the area over for clues.

She told Edinburgh Live: "I don't know the exact extent to the damage just now as the forensics are there. I think the person must've cut themselves as there was a lot of blood.

"The place has been trashed. I don't know if they were looking for money or what, but there's no money kept in the shop.

"We can't work this weekend now. Today would have been one of our biggest days, but it looks like we'll be shut for the weekend, maybe into Monday. We still don't know exactly how bad it is."

Judith says police attended the shop while being called out to another break-in at a nearby pizza restaurant on Morningside Drive around 4am.

She shared an image showing the extent of the damage to her store – a clothes shop – on social media, adding: "We will be closed today and until further notice #don't let the b******* grind you down."
