Edinburgh set to return to the silver screen: movie makers announce shoot in the city post-lockdown

Edinburgh is making a return to the silver screen with film crews planning shoots in the capital as lockdown rules start to ease.

Everyone knows Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in the whole world and Auld Reekie has been in her fair share of movies as a result.

Film makers love to use our cobbled streets and pretty wynds to stand in for all sorts of exotic locations past and present.

But the global pandemic not only put a stop to films appearing in cinemas, but production of new movies also ground to a halt.

But now that lockdown is gradually easing its lights, camera, action once again for the streets of Edinburgh.

One of the first movie makers to come back to Edinburgh is from Bollywood. India is the world’s biggest film producer and the money-making Bollywood juggernaut has turned its sights on our fair city.

The Mumbai-based film industry has announced that Bell Bottom will be the first post-covid film to make use of UK destinations, and a film crew will be heading to Scotland next month, reports Daily Business Magazine.

The 1980s spy thriller will star Bollywood favourites Akshay Kumar and Vaani Kapoor and is slated for release in 2021.

Edinburgh has also been a popular choice for Hollywood in the last few years, with films such The Fast and The Furious series and as the Avengers and shooting action sequences in the city’s cobbled streets.

Film and television is worth billions the UK economy and provided tens of thousands of jobs before lockdown, making sure the film industry can re-start smoothly while staying safe will be part of Edinburgh’s re-opening for business after lockdown.
