Edinburgh set to bask in 'Indian summer' with temperatures forecast to hit a balmy 20°C next week

Edinburgh residents might want to delay plans to pack away the BBQs and garden furniture, as the capital is set to bask in decidedly non-autumnal 20°C temperatures next week.

Despite the heavy rain and flood warnings issued today, according to long-range weather forecasts, over the coming two weeks the average daytime maximum temperature will be around 16°C, with a high for the two weeks of 20°C expected on the afternoon of Tuesday 8th.

The average minimum temperature will be 11°C, dipping to its lowest on the morning of Thursday 10th at 8°C. So you might want to put your cardigans and sweaters on that day.

The Indian summer will follow an August that was marred by heavy rain, which caused severe flooding in parts of the Lothians. People in Broxburn had to be evacuated by boat, and residents of Fala village faced a night of terror after a wave of floodwater swept through their village, also washing away the nearby A68 road.

Hopefully this warmer weather will last, and give the ground a much-needed chance to dry out.
