Edinburgh set for trendy New York inspired '63rd and 1st' cocktail bar and restaurant

Edinburgh could be set for a trendy New York inspired ‘63rd + 1st’ cocktail bar and restaurant.

The chain is owned by TGI Fridays and recently opened their first Scottish premises in Glasgow.

Now it looks like Edinburgh could be set for a 63rd + 1st, inspired by the street where the first TGI Fridays opened in New York.

The first ever TGI Fridays opened on the corner of 63rd Street and 1st Avenue in Manhattan, in 1965.

The chief executive from TGI Friday, Robert Cook, confirmed that they will be moving onto opening next in Edinburgh recently.

TGI’s are also currently recruiting for staff in Edinburgh, saying they have huge expansion plans for next year to coincide with their 35th year operating in the UK.

The chain’s menu is inspired by the street food scene in Manhattan with classic cocktails and eclectic dishes from steak and seafood to salads, pizzettas and burgers.

63rd and 1st explain a little more about their ethos on their website.

A spokesperson says: “The food offering is simple and accessible but surprising. Small plates encourage our guests to try new things and to share what they try. Because life tastes better shared.

“Our staff are experts. They exude a passion for cocktails and service – it’s their craft.

“Our style is welcoming, social and casual but professional and informed.

“We run on the belief that the more we do – the more our guests will want.

“Two or more is the rule; food, drink and company. One more song. Another drink. Bottomless fries. Whatever it is; the more - the merrier.”

Edinburgh Live will bring you any updates on the Edinburgh 63rd + 1st store as they become available.
