A serial sex offender in Edinburgh has become the first Scottish prisoner to die from coronavirus.
It is understood John Angus collapsed in a shower at Saughton Prison after contracting the deadly virus.
The 66-year-old, who was convicted of a number of offences, was rushed to hospital with a temperature.
He died in hospital on Thursday (9 April) after reportedly testing positive for the virus.
A prison source told the Daily Record: "Angus broke his hip when he fell in the shower but he had a temperature and obviously due to his hip he needed to be taken to hospital.
"He was in a bad way when he left the prison and it was thought then he wouldn't survive."
Angus was serving time at the capital prison for crimes that included indecent assault, assault and robbery.
Deemed a "significant risk to the public", was also serving time for assaulting a 21-year-old woman, after drugging her, removing her clothing while she slept and exposing himself to her.
Edinburgh Live have contacted the Scottish Prison Service for a statement.
