Edinburgh Scotrail train services cancelled as overnight works fail to finish on time

A number of Edinburgh train services were cancelled on Tuesday morning after overnight engineering works failed to finish on time.

Passengers were urged to check whether their journey is affected following news that a host of services were affected by the issue. Network Rail told customers they were working to have the works, taking place between Markinch and Ladybank, finished as soon as possible.

Edinburgh services to and from Perth/Dundee, Aberdeen and Markinch have all been affected, with trains either delayed or revised. Some replacement buses are currently running, with ScotRail sharing details of affected services, and revised plans, on their social media account and website.

At 5.40am, Network Rail said: "Due to overnight engineering works between Ladybank and Markinch not being completed on time, some trains that pass through these stations will be delayed or revised.

"Our engineers are on site working hard to finish these works and to get the line reopened."

ScotRail have reported that the works have now completed. The line will reopen and services will begin to resume.
