Edinburgh Scotmid Co-op undergoes 'deep clean' after staff member tests positive for coronavirus

Scotmid has confirmed a staff member at an Edinburgh store tested positive for coronavirus.

A source told Edinburgh Live that a member of management at the Ferry Road Scotmid Co-op store tested positive for the virus last week.

The worker was reportedly told to self-isolate but staff were told to carry on working as normal and the store did not close.

However, Scotmid assure customers that store was given a "deep clean" and that the situation is being monitored closely.

A Scotmid spokesperson said: “I can confirm that there has been a single positive case of Covid-19 at our store on Ferry Road.

"The store has already undergone a deep clean and we are closely monitoring the situation. We will take any further action necessary, in accordance with Scottish Government and Health and Safety guidelines.

“All our staff, except those who are exempt, wear face coverings and have access to hand washing facilities and sanitiser behind the tills.

"Any colleagues who have to self-isolate are always supported in doing so.

“Across all our stores, we continue to carry out our enhanced cleaning measures, including the regular cleaning of touch points, as well as providing hand sanitiser at the main entrance.
