A host of primary and secondary schools across Edinburgh have remained closed today, with doors also staying shut tomorrow.
Edinburgh schools will reopen on Thursday, March 2, after a two-day strike amid ongoing pay disputes. The two-day closures are not the only scheduled plans, with a further 20 days of rolling strike action planned across Scotland between March 13 and April 21.
The Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) said it will continue with strike action until a “more credible offer is put onto the negotiating table”.

The news comes after teachers demanded a 10 per cent pay increase for their work - but the Scottish Government have claimed that their demands are unaffordable.
By the end of this week, many pupils will have lost at least five days of schooling to the industrial action, which began in November.
But why are teachers striking and when are the upcoming strike dates? Here is everything you need to know.
What were teachers in Edinburgh offered?
Teachers across Scotland were offered a pay deal worth 11.5 per cent in total over two years. This included a 6 per cent rise for 2022-23, backdated to last April, and a 5.5 per cent increase for 2023-24.
This was turned down by the EIS and the NASUWT union, as the members of staff now on strike await news of a better deal.
When will schools in Edinburgh strike again?
Edinburgh primary and secondary schools are set to strike again in unison on March, 17, 2023. Primary schools in the capital will stage a strike on March 16 as well, with secondary schools planning another walk-out on March 20.
East and West Lothian schools are also planning strikes on the following dates:
East Lothian
- All schools: March 17, 2023
- Primary schools: March 15, 2023
- Secondary schools: March 16, 2023
West Lothian
- All schools: March 24, 2023
- Primary schools: March 23, 2023
- Secondary schools: March 27, 2023
