Edinburgh school rocked by new allegations of violent abuse and bullying

Edinburgh’s Fettes College has been at the centre of new abuse allegations.

The claims were made by a former pupil who says abuse and bullying ruined his time at Fettes and he still lives with the damage.

The victim spoke to the Daily Record this week, after giving evidence to the Scottish Child Abuse inquiry.

The probe heard as many ex-pupils explained that the school was awash with bullies and deviants and the victims were terrified to complain as no one would help them.

Former Met cop Robert, 61, said he is still haunted after being caned aged 15 while forced to lie across a teacher’s lap at Fettes.

Robert – not his real name – still cries out in the night from the terrifying dreams provoked by bullying he endured at Fettes and the gross sexual abuse he endured at Duncan House, a prep school in Moffat.

Robert said: “I want people to understand that childhood abuse ruins your life.

“You’re left with issues of trust that affect all your relationships and you lack confidence because abuse destroys your sense of worth”

Robert was at Duncan House prep school from nine to 13, where three older boys subjected him repeatedly to the most serious sexual abuse.

At Fettes, he recalled being forced to lie in a cold enamel bath by older boys while it was filled up to his neck with cold water.

He told the inquiry that the boarding school culture allowed children to be brutalised while expecting them not to cry in front of their tormentors.

Fettes and Duncan House have been asked for comment.
