Edinburgh Sainsbury's customers in hysterics after spotting sign spelling fail

If you're having a bad day, maybe spare a thought for the hapless sign maker whose job it was to put up the livery at a local Sainsbury's.

Eagle-eyed shoppers spotted the embarrassing gaffe at the supermarket giant's Bruntsfield branch - with a comma inserted on the chain's famous orange branding instead of an apostrophe in its name.

The Daily Record reports how the calamitous sign read: "Sainsburys, local" instead of "Sainsbury's local."

And Twitter, well, Twitter did what Twitter does - blowing up with quick-witted replies.

Making the blunder even worse, the sign seen above the other outside wall of the store has the correct grammar, leaving no excuses for the tragic mistake.

It wasn't long before people started to notice the error, with one person taking to social media to revel in the grocer's misfortune.

@JordanOgg shared images of the fault to Twitter on Wednesday, writing: "The Sainsbury's near me has a new sign and look where they've put the bloody apostrophe."

The tweet has now collected over 1,800 likes with hundreds of retweets and dozens of comments from users who were left in stitches by the blunder.

@KrisWhoTweets remarked: "When Cristopher Walken is in charge of putting up the new sign."

@DaveWCreative said: "You had one job."

@JohnRobson87 was less than impressed, remarking: "Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature."

@HeatherJCla just stated: "Oops!"

@WHS-Carpet added: "An apostrophe catastrophe."

@Philipsallan replied: "It's the difference between knowing your sh** and knowing you're sh**."

A Sainsbury's spokesperson replied on social media: "Oh dear, Jordan! not a good look. Could you confirm where this store is please? We'll get this fed back ASAP."
