Edinburgh's weather to plummet to 0C this week with more snow on the way

Last week we were battered with gale force winds, this week we can look forward to freezing cold temperatures - at least we're being cheery about it, right?

Yes, despite just getting through Storm Arwen it's hardly time to put our big winter coats away as Edinburgh prepares to be hit by plummeting temperatures come the weekend.

Although we've enjoyed a mild Tuesday at a mild 11C, both Wednesday (1 December) and Sunday (5 December) will see lows of 0C and highs of just 3C in Sunday's case.

Friday will be slightly warmer at 7C but it'll be the last mild spell for a while.

The Met Office predicts "wintery showers in the east" on Thursday, overnight rain and snow then mainly dry Friday. Further rain or snow likely Saturday, but drier later.

The following week (week commencing Monday 6 December), the colder temperatures will welcome sleet showers and snow across Edinburgh - with many locals keeping their fingers crossed that we may enjoy a White Christmas after all.

BBC Weather's outlook for the week reads: "Thursday looks to see winds and showers ease through the morning, with further outbreaks of rain and snow arriving from the west towards the end of the day, these clearing to the east overnight.

"Friday is expected to be unsettled with a mix of bright spells and showers. Saturday will stay overcast for most of the country with scattered showers, locally turning wintry."
