Edinburgh's St Michael’s Parish Church launches socially distanced 'prayer stations' during pandemic

“Prayer Stations” have been introduced at an Edinburgh church as a way of allowing people to pray while respecting social distancing measures.

St Michael’s Parish Church on Slateford Road is using its garden as a way for Christians to connect to their faith while the building remains shut down by the pandemic.

Nine socially distanced prayer stations have been set up which allow people to "reflect on life and the teachings of the Scriptures."

Rev Andrea Price, minister of St Michael’s Parish Church, told the Church of Scotland: “The garden is in full bloom and looking lovely but the church building is still closed due to lockdown.

“We thought it is important to enable and encourage people to pray and with everyone going out for walks, we thought it would be nice to have Prayer Stations in the garden to give people a reason to stop and ponder."

Each prayer station has a card that has been planted into the ground with a cane and according to the reverend the design is inspired by prayer walks.

“I have adapted it for people who come into the garden on their own and the feedback we have had to far has been positive,”
