Edinburgh's Queen Street traffic brought to halt as snapped tree branch blocks the road

Traffic on Edinburgh's Queen Street was brought to a halt after a snapped tree branch partially blocked the road.

The incident happened at around 5:30pm this evening, heading east on the city centre road.

It is understood the branch fell from an overhanging tree in in Queen Street Gardens East and caused the obstruction.

A Dre Henderson reported on Twitter: "Queen Street, heading east, is currently closed due to a snapped tree branch on the road. The tree is in Queen Street Gardens East."

At least two officers can be seen at the scene to control traffic flow.

According to reports on social media, the tree branch was being cut up and gradually removed from the road to allow limited traffic to pass.

It is unknown if the branch has now been removed completely from the road.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
