Edinburgh's Quality Street at Davidson's Mains closed due to 'emergency"

A major Davidson's Mains road has been closed suddenly due to a Scottish Power "emergency"

Quality Street has been shut due to emergency works to fix a blown-out cable.

Cllr Kevin Lang confirmed that an excavation has to take place, meaning that part of the road will be dug up to allow the cable to be replaced.

It is not yet known how long the emergency works will take and a diversion will have to be put in place via Corbiehill Road.

Cllr Kenvin Lang said: " EMERGENCY CLOSURE OF QUALITY STREET, DAVIDSON'S MAINS

"We've just been told that Scottish Power is having to undertake emergency works which will require the full closure of Quality Street.

"This is to address a blown cable, just opposite Quality Street Lane. Four-way lights have been set up on the D'Mains roundabout."

He added "The works require an excavation in Quality Street for a new section of cable to be installed. To do this they require a full road closure of Quality Street.

"A diversion will need to be put in place via Corbiehill Road, similar to the recent City Fibre works but will affect both directions.

"Lothian Buses will follow the same diversion as before but for both directions. This will mean no bus services on Quality Street or Main Street between Quality Street and Corbiehill Road."

"We don't yet know how long this work will take but we'll keep folk posted."
