Edinburgh's Princes Street in lockdown amid suspicious package

EDINBURGH'S Princes Street closed on Saturday while emergency services examined a "suspicious package".

At around 1pm on Saturday, police received a report that suspicious package had been delivered to a commercial premises on Princes Street, Edinburgh.

The building was evacuated as a precaution. 

Road closures were in place along Princes Street between South St Andrews Street and North Bridge, with diversions in place.

The road reopened around 5.30pm.

Police Scotland said: "Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance and the package is being examined. 

"A cordon is in place."

Edinburgh Trams confirmed prior to the reopening they were only able to run a part route between the airport and West End.
