Edinburgh's popular Bearded Baker welcomed back from lockdown with huge queues

Locals have flocked back to many of Edinburgh' favourite bakeries and shops this week as they were finally able to reopen.

Nicola Sturgeon had announced an easing of lockdown which allowed non-essential shops to reopen as long as they have street-level entrances and exits.

And The Bearded Baker was welcomed back in style, with people queuing up round the block to grab a coffee and a bagel.

Opened in 2015, the bagels are popular right across Edinburgh and locals have missed being able to get their fix after the owners were forced to close their doors.

Welcoming the bakery back, one fan wrote on Twitter: "Fantastic. I think everyone knows use you or lose you. Enjoy. Long may it continue."

Another added: Delighted to be back @BakerBearded so missed the fab sourdough. And queues testament that others feel the same."

It comes as Scots are urged to shop local and support local independent businesses who are getting back on their feet following the pandemic.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has asked people to ensure they shop responsibly and support local traders when possible.

“I want us all in the weeks ahead to support the retail sector, to support shops trying to get back to normal, but we must all shop responsibly," she said.
