Edinburgh's National Museum re-opens with new social distancing measures

The National Museum of Scotland has re-opened its door to the public with a phased approach today.

The entrance hall and level one galleries, which include the Grand Gallery, will be open from today with 'high-touch' areas to remain closed.

People who wish to book a trip to the museum must book a free ticket in advance which will give them a specific entry time.

Visitors must also wear a face-covering at all times, and staff will be wearing PPE and working behind sneeze proof glass.

One of the most popular attractions, Dolly the cloned sheep, has been moved to a new location in the museum.

There is also a one-way system in place with visitors required to follow directional signage around the building.

Hand sanitiser stations have been installed throughout the museum and people are expected to remain two meters apart from others.

The cloakroom is currently closed, so visitors are being asked to only bring what they can carry with them.

While the cafe and restaurants are open, all customers will be expected to pay by card and not cash.
