Edinburgh's Hawkhill in Leith is swarmed by police due to ongoing incident

Residents on an Edinburgh street have been told to stay indoors due to an ongoing police incident.

Police dogs and armed police can be seen on Lochend Avenue and Hawkhill in Leith.

One local resident said: "My street is closed down and police across the road are instructing me to stay indoors, dogs barking at the end of the road."

Another concerned local, who contacted Edinburgh Live, said she could see armed police and dogs from her window.

She added: "I was just passing and there was a heavy police presence along with armed police and plain clothes officers. The back entrance to the flat is being surrounded by police with dogs, and immediate road has been blocked off."

Police Scotland said they were in the area for a pre-planned operation.

A spokesman said: "Officers are currently in attendance at an address in Lochend Avenue, Edinburgh, as part of a pre-planned operation. Enquiries are ongoing."

Last week, three people were arrested after police attended an incident on Hawkhill Avenue.
