Edinburgh's Gorgie City Farm to reopen after takeover by charity

A city farm which closed down last year is to reopen after a takeover by a charity.

Edinburgh’s Gorgie City Farm announced its closure in November last year amid cash troubles.

Liquidators were called in to wind up the 40-year-old organisation – just two years after a crowd-funding effort saved it.

Now Love Learning, a charity that supports vulnerable individuals, is to take over the council site.

Lynn Bell, CEO of Love Learning said: “We are incredibly excited to be taking on such a treasured resource.

“Not only will the farm remain open seven days a week and remain free, but we will provide a range of exciting education,
environmental and social care programmes.”

Gorgie City Farm has welcomed around 200,000 visitors a year since it was saved from closure in 2016 after an appeal raised in excess of £100,000.
