Edinburgh's former 18th century temple that is linked to the Nazi surrender

Even those who have lived in Edinburgh their whole lives may not be familiar with its links to the Nazis. There are, however, several buildings and areas that have a fascinating history that factors in the Second World War.

One of those is Craigiehall Temple, the A-listed building located close to Cramond and dates all the way back to 1759.

The building, which is more than it looks, was in fact once part of the British Army's Craigiehall Estate and is linked to the Nazi surrender.

What has now been converted into a luxury modern home, the secrets of its past is one thing that can't be painted over. The tower was originally constructed in 1759, and still features a splendid pillared portico by Sir William Bruce, the architect of the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

The building now includes a ground floor hallway that leads to a large extension, five more bedrooms, four bathrooms and three reception rooms.

Whether you're a history buff or not, this impressive building pulls you in and would fit in with the likes of Outlander, with its rustic, romantic feel.

But it holds a secret past, located half a mile from where Rudolf Hess, Adolf Hitler's deputy, is believed to have been held after parachuting into Scotland in 1941.

It seems hard to imagine this dream home's wartime past today but the estate it sits on was where official documents were signed surrendering German forces in Norway in 1945.

This property is likely out of most people's budget, unless you have a spare £895k. But that doesn't stop you taking a sneak peek.
