Edinburgh's Dean Village 'washed away' as Storm Alex causes Water of Leith to overflow

A shocking video shared by a local Edinburgh writer has shown the dramatic effects of heavy rain fall battering the capital over the weekend.

This weekend Storm Alex caused heavy flooding around Edinburgh and the Lothians, which even lead to a trapped motorist being rescued from their car in Kirkliston.

Now one of Edinburgh's most picturesque locations - Dean Village - looks almost unrecognisable after being transformed into a mucky brown river, reports The Daily Record.

In a shocking video, fast-flowing murky water surrounds the village after the downpour caused Water of Leith to burst.

History author Sara Sheridan captured the footage and shared on it social media saying "I reckon we won't be walking along the Leith for a wee while."

It comes as Storm Alex caused travel chaos, including dangerous landslips between Inverkeithing & Aberdour, as well as a second landslip near Kirkcaldy in Fife.

From 7pm on Sunday evening Scotrail cancelled all trains travelling from areas in Scotland with an Amber weather warning.
