Edinburgh's current Covid rate and how it compares to rest of Scotland

There are 15 parts of Scotland with higher Covid-19 infection rates than Edinburgh, according to data from Public Health Scotland.

Figures for the seven days leading up to March 23, the Scottish capital had a rate of 53.3 cases per 100,000 population.

This is lower than the likes of West Lothian, North Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Dundee, Falkirk, Perth and Kinross, Moray, Clackmannanshire and Fife.

The data shows that West Lothian has the highest seven-day coronavirus infection rate in the whole country, with 188.4 cases per 100,000 population.

Seven day infection rates per 100,000 people for each local authority area are as follows:

  • West Lothian - 188.4
  • North Lanarkshire - 131.2
  • Glasgow City - 107.1
  • East Renfrewshire - 95.3
  • Falkirk - 95.1
  • Renfrewshire - 89.9
  • North Ayrshire - 89.8
  • South Lanarkshire - 87
  • West Dunbartonshire - 81
  • Moray - 68.9
  • Midlothian - 67.1
  • Perth and Kinross - 65.2
  • Clackmannanshire - 64
  • Fife - 60.5
  • East Dunbartonshire - 58
  • City of Edinburgh - 53.3
  • South Ayrshire - 48.8
  • Stirling - 48.8
  • East Ayrshire - 45.9
  • Shetland Islands - 43.6
  • Aberdeen City - 42.9
  • East Lothian - 38.3

In the City of Edinburgh there were 280 positive cases confirmed between March 17 and March 23, with test positivity at 2.6 per cent across the seven days.

The parts of Edinburgh with the highest infection rates were Murrayburn and Wester Hailes North, The Calders, Broomhouse and Bankhead, Niddrie, Parkhead and Sighthill and Leith (Hermitage and Prospect Bank).

In West Lothian there were 345 positive cases across the same period with test positivity at 6.4 per cent. Areas such as Livingston Village and Eliburn South, Breich Valley, Deans and Carmondean and Eliburn North had a rate of more than 400 cases per 100,000.

In Midlothian there were 62 cases with a test positivity rate of three per cent. Thornybank was the area with the highest infection rate.

In East Lothian there were 41 cases across the same period, with only 1.8 per cent of tests coming back positive.
