Edinburgh's Civerinos Slice earns award for refusing to serve people who park in bike lanes

An Edinburgh pizza restaurant has been handed an award from Cycling Scotland after refusing to serve drivers who park in the pop-up cycle lane outside.

Civerinos Slice also impressed the national cycling organisation by offering a ten percent discount to locals who arrived at the pizza parlour on their bike.

The restaurant was praised for "embracing the pop-up infrastructure during the Covid-19 pandemic when many other companies could only see the downsides."

Civernos was branded "brave" by Cycling Scotland for making a public pro-cycling statement that they would be refusing to serve anyone parking in the cycling lanes outside the shop.

The Edinburgh pizza place has been awarded the The Business Champion of the Year award for their "courage and leadership".

The restaurant shared posters online encouraging locals not to park in the cycle lanes, penning: "To try and protect cyclists and pedestrians at the Forrest road junction to try and stop people parking on the pavement and bus lane, we have encouraged our neighbours to do the same.

" Stay safe.. be nice... eat pizza x"

Cycling Scotland said: “Civerinos Slice bravely made a very public pro-cycling statement that they wouldn't serve anyone parking in the cycle lane outside their shop.

"A lot of other businesses had a negative reaction to the new pop-up infrastructure, but Civerinos Slice’s attitude was a shining example of how businesses can benefit from increased numbers of cyclists and pedestrians.”
