Edinburgh's Burton's Biscuit factory hit with coronavirus outbreak after staff test positive

An Edinburgh biscuit factory has been hit with a coronavirus outbreak, as four workers are said to have tested positive.

A number of staff members at Burton's Biscuits have also been told to go home and self-isolate after tests, reports the Daily Record.

The Edinburgh bakery is known as the ‘home of shortbread’, producing a range of shortbread products for numerous customers, and the site also produces iconic brands such as Burton’s Fish ‘n’ Chips and Viscount biscuits.

The firm say production will continue at the Bankhead Place bakery while they monitor the situation.

A spokesperson said: “The health, safety and wellbeing of our colleagues remains our number one priority.

"We continue to work closely with local health authorities to ensure that the most stringent hygiene and social distancing measures are in place.

"In addition, we continue to follow all guidance and advice provided by the Government.

"The Health Protection Team has undertaken a risk assessment and confirmed they are satisfied with the appropriateness of the measures taken by the company.
