Edinburgh's A720 City Bypass closes this week for ten days of major resurfacing works

Edinburgh's A720 City Bypass is set to close for nearly two weeks for essential repair works.

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is planning to resurface 2km of the A720 westbound slip from the A71 Calder Junction towards Gogar Roundabout.

The work will take place over ten days, commencing on Monday March 7, starting each night and ending by the following morning.

To ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the travelling public, the A720 westbound slip from the A71 will be closed from 8.30pm until 6am each night.

A diversion route will be signposted via the A720 eastbound, returning westbound from Dreghorn Junction.

This diversion will add approximately nine minutes and 7.5 miles to affected journeys.

The slip road from the M8 onto the A720 westbound will also be closed during these works and a signed diversion route will be in place via the Hermiston gate roundabout.

This diversion will add approximately one minute to affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Consultation has been carried out with relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety and ride quality for motorists using this slip road on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass.

“We’ve planned the works overnight to minimise disruption, however we thank motorists in advance for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
