Edinburgh rush hour misery as A702 closed in both directions after crash - causing heavy bypass traffic

A crash has caused the A702 in Edinburgh to be closed in both directions at rush hour, with the knock-on effect causing even heavier than usual traffic on Edinburgh City Bypass.

The busy road - which links Edinburgh with Midlothian towns like Penicuik- is closed just before the crossroads at Fairmilehead.

Traffic experts Inrix say:

"A702 Comiston Road in both directions closed, very slow traffic due to accident from A720 Edinburgh City Bypass (Lothian Burn Junction) to B701 Frogston Road West. Likely to cause heavy congestion on the A720 (city bypass).

The crash happened at about 4.45pm. Two bus services - the Lothian Buses 4 and the 15 and x15 - have all been diverted away from Biggar Road.

It's not yet known how long the road will be closed for, but drivers are advised to avoid the area.
