Edinburgh rooftop cinema club with cocktails and popcorn to launch in November

An Edinburgh hotel has unveiled the first screening of its intimate film club at a fashionable rooftop bar with cocktails and popcorn on offer for movie fans.

Cinemagoers will be able to enjoy a special showing of Federico Fellini’s Italian classic ‘La Dolce Vita’ in a cosy 40-seater theatre atop the Moxy Fountainbridge on November 21.

Guests can enjoy a complimentary negroni, plus live entertainment an hour before the film starts at 4:45pm, before tucking into popcorn during the showing.

It is hoped the film club, launched in partnership with Cinescapes, will become a monthly fixture of the spectacular location, with events running on the third Sunday of every month.

Isobel Salamon, co-founder and director of Cinescapes said: “This is all about creating an atmosphere around the most iconic films and bringing some old favourites back to life.

“We’re going to be theming some nights with the films we will offer as well as the cocktails and popcorn that will all tie in, providing a cinema experience like no other.”

The roof terrace offers stunning views over the Edinburgh skyline, including an picturesque illuminated outlook over the historic Castle.

La Dolce Vita, released in 1960, is regarded as one of the greatest films in world cinema and was named sixth in TimeOut’s 2021 list of the 100 best films ever made.

It follows journalist Marcello Rubini on a seven-day journey through the "sweet life" in Rome and hedonistic lifestyle which comes along with it.

Hotel chief Ross McEwan added: “Our rooftop terrace with castle views has proved to be a huge hit this year so as the colder nights are here, we wanted to promote something a little different for our guests and this is just the ticket.

"Famed for our originality, we wanted to focus on our fun, edgy and playful brand and these nights will be a big part of that, evolving over time and bringing something we think guests will love.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £20 and are available here.
