Edinburgh road partly sealed off after fire crews race to suspected 'gas leak' in Muirhouse

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a suspected "gas leak" in Edinburgh.

Police and fire engines raced to the scene on Pennywell Road in the Muirhouse at around 4pm this afternoon.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they are in attendance with two fire appliances at the scene.

It is understood there has been a gas leak, with fire crews said to be awaiting further advice from Scottish Gas.

Photos from the scene show officers have also established a police cordon, sealing an area of walkway beside nearby shops.

Local Facebook page Trim and Friends of West Pilton said: "Gas leak at the shops on Pennywell road. All shops, library and north Edinburgh arts currently closed."
