Edinburgh road forced to close so JK Rowling can have giant 30ft hedge trimmed

A giant 30ft hedge in front of JK Rowling's Edinburgh property forced part of a road to close as it underwent regular maintenance.

The hedges require regular maintenance after claims in 2019 it had grown to obstruct street lights.

An 80ft cherry picker was brought in for the job, which took specialists a number of days to complete as traffic lights were installed and part of the road closed.

The Harry Potter author is has always been known for her love of privacy, and the hedge in parts screens the property in Barnton near Cramond from view from passersby and adoring fans.

The multi-million pound 17th-century mansion includes two 'Harry Potter' style treehouses, but is almost entirely shielded by the hedge.

A previous home occupied by Rowling also had large hedges, leading to it being dubbed "fortress Rowling".

In 2015, one neighbour complained about the time it had taken and the road disruption.

"The hedges are obviously to stop people looking into her property," the neighbour told the Telegraph in 2015.
