Edinburgh road cops arrest driver caught on motorway nearly seven times drink-drive over limit

A drink-driver will face a weekend in the cells after being caught nearly seven times over the limit on the M90.

Edinburgh Roads Policing shared an image of the inside of a cell saying the man would be held until Monday before appearing at Edinburgh Sheriff Court.

The man failed a roadside breathalyser test before later providing a reading of 148 micrograms, which is 6.7 times over the legal limit of 22 micrograms, Police Scotland said.

Police Scotland said on Twitter the man was driving on the M90, which runs from the South Queensferry, through Fife and onto Perth.

The legal limit in Scotland was changed in December 2014 by the Scottish Government, lowering the threshold to 22 micrograms, down from the previous limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100mls of breath.

The limit is the lowest in the UK, where England, Wales and Northern Ireland retain the 35 micrograms limit.

Writing on Twitter, the Roads Policing unit said: "[Edinburgh Roads Policing] attended a report of a drink driver earlier this evening.
