Edinburgh retro video game bar with cocktails and craft beer opening this summer

An eclectic arcade-themed bar offering retro gaming enthusiasts the chance to enjoy a pint with classic titles is set to open in Edinburgh this summer - and have opened the floor for locals to come and try it out.

NQ64 is set to transform the former Badabing on Lothian Road into a neon-tinged gaming den complete with pinball machine and beloved titles including Mortal Kombat, Pac Man and Guitar Hero.

Groups can also enjoy throwback multiplayer experiences on Nintendo 64 icons Mario Kart and Mario Party while experiencing an exclusive menu of cocktails and craft beer, along with a selection of 'retro crisps'.

The bar is not set to open its doors until later in the year but a select few will get the chance to experience the nostalgia hit ahead of time to test out the games and sample the drinks offering.

Fans are urged to follow the bar's Instagram page and look out for the post inviting them down.

NQ64 already has three retro arcade game bars in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham, packed with classic consoles and arcade games from the '70s, '80s and '90s.

Consoles - which will include Super Nintendo, N64, PlayStation and the Nintendo Game Cube - are free to play, but the arcade machines operate on a token system.

Once tokens are purchased at the bar, gamers are free to sit down at any machine and enjoy some of the most influential titles ever produced.

Founder Matt Robson said: “We can’t wait to get our Edinburgh site open. I love the city, and I hope people are going to love our new bar.

"We’re grafting behind the scenes to get the venue, our retro games and a banging booze selection ready."
