Edinburgh restaurant warns customers 'please get tested' after Covid confirmed

A busy Edinburgh restaurant has taken the decision to temporarily close for a deep clean, after a reported positive Covid-19 case.

Down the Hatch, in South Queensferry, made the announcement via social media last night, saying that the restaurant would be closed for sit-in and takeaway today (December 28) and tomorrow.

They said that whilst they do not have to close, they are taking the extra precaution after a positive case within the restaurant and will be focusing on reopening on Thursday.

The team also issued a warning to those who may have visited the venue recently to take a lateral flow test to be safe.

Their statement read: "Sadly we are having to close SOUTH QUEENSFERRY TOMORROW (28/12) and WEDNESDAY (29/12) for sit in and take away/delivery. Sadly, if you have a booking this will be cancelled. Please bear with us as we work through the cancellations.

"We have been made aware of of positive case and while we don’t have to close, we have taken the decision to close for a couple of days to ensure all of our team members are tested and deep clean, so we can safely operate for the rest of the week.

"We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you have been with us, please do a lateral flow."

This sad announcement comes after their second Edinburgh restaurant, on Antigua Street, recently announced a closure for their indoor seating area due to the recent tightening of Covid restrictions on the hospitality sector.

Instead, are only open for takeaway and Deliveroo orders until the restrictions change again, adding to the team's distress.

The South Queensferry has proved so popular with food-lovers across the city, that the second venue in the city centre was a welcomed addition to Edinburgh's dining scene. They also provided a popular outdoor seating area with heaters for the cold winter evenings.

Providing some of the most Instagrammable, juicy burgers and wings, Down the Hatch have been a revelation for the city, adopting a Scottish twist on their famous Canadian dishes.
