Edinburgh restaurant slams 'abusive' customers who shouted at staff

A restaurant in Edinburgh's Old Town has issued a stark warning entitled 'Don't Be a F***y' to customers after an 'increasing amount of verbally abusive behaviour' towards staff.

Laila on Cockburn Street issued the statement of 'sombre necessity' on Instagram last night, warning badly-behaved punters that not only will they not tolerate aggressive behaviour, they will ban anyone who mistreats their staff.

The bright pink brunch restaurant added that in extreme cases they will report any abusive incidents to the police with CCTV evidence.

The news comes after other bars and restaurants in recent weeks have had to issue similar warnings following anti-social behaviour from customers towards staff.

Laila wrote on Instagram: "Unfortunately we have to disrupt our usual charming and delicious looking feed with a bit of sombre necessity.

"It has come to our recent attention that there has been an increasing amount of verbally abusive behaviour within our premises towards our staff who are just trying to do their job as efficiently as possible, and somehow these people have forgotten their manners at home.

"As much as we enjoy welcoming you all to Laila’s and hope you enjoy it as much as we loved creating it.

"We absolutely DO NOT tolerate any type of aggressive behaviour towards any employee, whether verbal, physical or harassment based.

"You will not only be asked to leave and banned from the premises, but in extreme cases reported to the police with CCTV footage in tow if the behaviour warrants it.

"Imagine what your mum would say!

"Please treat everyone with respect including our staff. Life is too short to be anything but kind and it is a bad few who ruin things for everyone!"
