Edinburgh restaurant neighbours with Greyfriars Bobby searching for new owner

A vacant restaurant unit on Candlemaker row is being advertised by Cornerstone estate agents.

The premises is described as a “superb Class 3 restaurant opportunity in central Edinburgh ” and is located at 44 Candlemaker Row.

The leasehold is available at £85,000. With a new FRI lease being advertised by the owner and starting rent is believed to be at £38,000 per annum for the restaurant unit.

The unit traded as a Japanese restaurant - Slurrrp Hakataya - before it had been made available recently.

Cornerstone describes the property as being located in “...a highly visible trading location in the heart of Edinburgh’s Old Town. Located next to Greyfriars Bobby statue, the subjects are centrally located close to many attractions including: Royal Mile, The Grassmarket, Museum of Scotland, George IV Bridge as well as The Meadows.”

In their advertisement, Cornerstone said: “This is an excellent trading location to capture local and passing trade as well as the substantial tourist trade which comes to Edinburgh every year.

“Located on Candlemaker Row the premises are visible from George IV Bridge.

“A huge opportunity exists for a motivated restaurant operator to acquire a prominently located restaurant in one of best trading locations in central Edinburgh. The location benefits from substantial nearby footfall as well-being situated opposite one of Edinburgh’s most quirky tourist locations.

“The business formally traded as a popular Japanese restaurant but the space would lend itself perfectly to a wide variety of international cuisines.

“The landlord will require a rental deposit. Prospective tenants will be expected to provide necessary information to the landlord for consent purposes.”
